School: Spring Semester 2013
Actually, I've been enjoying this semester so far. I'm taking 12 credits (compared to 13 last semester) this semester and all of my classes meet twice a week. So that means I only have classes four days a week and I'm off every Friday, having a three-day weekend every week! Pretty sweet deal, if I do say so myself. The classes I'm taking this semester are supposed to help me explore some ideas on what I may want to major in. For example, I'm taking Business 101 and Communications 175 to help me get a few ideas and sink my teeth into potential things I have interest in. We'll see though... That, plus a few classes to help me get my general studies out of the way; I still have some time to make crucial decisions... Midterms are coming up next week so it's probably gonna get busy... AGAIN.
Distractions: Video Games and the Weather
Last semester, I went the entire semester without playing any video games. This semester, one of my roommates brought in a Wii, a GameCube, and a PlayStation 2 into our apartment. He is a much bigger gamer than I am! And although I went without it for a few weeks, I regret to inform you that I have been lured back into the swing of video games ranging from Dance Dance Revolution to The Legend of Zelda to Pokemon... That's the one thing I need to watch out for the rest of the semester. It's good to have it I suppose in order to let out some steam. Plus it's a good activity to do in groups when everyone is fresh out of ideas on what to do.
Another distraction has to be the weather warming up. Both the weather itself and what people around us do when it gets nice out. The weather gets so nice, that you'd rather go outside and ride a bike or go for a walk rather than spend time doing homework! And there has been a lot more noise outside our complex (especially at night). Even Latter-day Saints college students do stupid (and often obnoxious!) things, with no regards for neighborhood etiquette, city rules, or curfew... Everybody's maturity levels are different and I can only can determine my own so I'll just stick to that.
Recent Happenings: Family, Activities, Current Events, Life
Really though, I've just been trying real hard this semester to stay on top of my schoolwork. It was Memorial Day weekend last week, which was nice because it was a four-day weekend for me! Can't say anything exciting has been going on other than staying on top of school work. I saw my dad and sister and much of my extended family recently, but not on the happiest of circumstances... But despite that, it's always great to see them. My awesome sister will be serving a mission (like I did in Japan) on behalf of our church in Singapore and Malaysia in a few short months; I'm definitely excited for her!
With such nice weather we've been having this semester, we try to capitalize on it by doing a lot of outdoor activities such as a bonfire out on the St. Anthony Sand Dunes:

Fun but fairly common activity amongst BYU-Idaho students. |
Really reminds me of my scouting days. I will always be a scout at heart but with recent happenings within the organization, there's a lot of contention; you've probably heard about it... There is a Facebook group where those who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout can share common ground by networking with each other. But because of the recent news regarding admittance policies based on sexual orientation, there has been a lot of opinion-based bickering. Seeing this much debate has caused me to distance myself from the scouts in the social media. Three years ago, I was awarded the Eagle Scout rank and I still take pride in that accomplishment. With regards to all this drama, I leave it to the opinions of individuals and will have no part in it. I will however, continue to support and endorse the good and proper things of the scouting program so long as it stands up to my morals.
Also experienced another tragedy that occurred overseas last week... One of my mission companions was killed an automobile accident. You can read about it here...
In the works:
I'm considering volunteering at the Legacy Flight Museum here in Rexburg. Partly because my grandfather volunteered there a few years ago and loved it. But I'm considering it mainly because a lot of my relatives claim that I'd be good at it. Personally, I think my aunts and uncles speak way too highly of me. I haven't decided yet...
And as I mentioned earlier, midterms are just around the corner. I'm not looking forward to it because nobody wants to study a lot when we're expecting nice weather! Who wants to do that, right? But it is what it is...
