I Eat Sushi and Summer's Here...

Okay! So I completely suck at updating at all this semester! But I suppose it's a good thing that I'm not obsessing over it because my improved focus (not to mention my grades!) have been showing for it. But I got some time today so I figure an update or two would suffice... Problem is, there hasn't been a whole lot going on other than school. A few activities here and there to mix things up a bit. The summer season has officially started and I've been getting roasted, considering that my apartment DOES NOT have air conditioning... But other than that, I've been pretty busy trying to keep on my school work. And that's gonna be the case more than ever now that the semester's ending next month; the pace is really starting to pick up so I need to keep my head in the game if I plan on getting through this.

So if you're actually taking the time to read this, you're probably thinking "On with the updates!"

Okay! Okay! Take a chill pill!

Two weeks ago:
Father's Day weekend, Rexburg, Idaho.
Location: Rexburg-Madison County Airport
Event: Airport Appreciation Day hosted by the Legacy Flight Museum
So this was an event done by the Legacy Flight Museum in lieu of their bi-annual air show. More details (with photos AND videos!) on my aviation blog. Considering that I haven't had much of an air show buzz at all this year, not to mention the government sequester grounding many military aircraft, it was nice to do a little planespotting and attend a local aviation event. Since a lot of air shows feature military performances as the main attraction and the sequester playing a role, a lot of shows lost their luster in a matter of seconds before they even happened and many throughout the country are now cancelled. Really is a bummer since I was anticipating to see the U.S. Navy Blue Angels this year at the Oregon International Air Show this upcoming July; I haven't seen a Blue Angels performance since Reno 2008... So I'm just making the best of a bleak situation when it comes to the aviation industry and my passion for it.

With the Mormon Mustang.

With a Grumman Tracker.
Probably the largest thing I saw at the airport that day.

Last weekend, I went shooting as part of a Church activity just west of Rexburg with 12 gauge and 20 gauge shotguns and let's just say I completely suck at it! I really need to re-learn how to use a shotgun... It was a windy day too so I can only assume that had a factor in why I only hit one clay pigeon out of like 17. Plus I bruised my right shoulder a little. Pretty much a sign that I've softened up:

Probably one of my more undignified pics to show on my blog. Ignore the armpit hairs...

Also I accomplished a "first" by shooting a handgun that fired .22 rounds:

Little recoil. Uses a common round. Suffice to say, I want one of these to supplement my arsenal which only consists of a .22 rifle with a scope!

After we were done shooting we drove to a pretty little park by a river and had dinner together. The view was nice too:

Who says Idaho ISN'T green?!
(Oh crap! I'm starting to sound like a tree-huggin' Oregonian!)

Other miscellaneous things going on these days... Oh! I had a Winger's lunch again recently:

I don't what it is, but this stuff makes my mouth water every time!

I also did another bonfire (with smores!) with my friends out on the St. Anthony sand dunes again as well:

Now, I have a little confession to make... So far this year, my test scores I've taken for my classes haven't been the greatest, despite an honest effort on my part; especially last semester. This semester, I'm doing a little better... The best scores I've ever gotten in the testing center on campus has been around the mid-80s with my worst score being in the mid-60s. Safe to say my averages were in the 70s range, which really is average and not outstanding. Suffice to say, every time I saw my scores in the 70s (or worse), my confidence level (and a little bit of my pride) took a hard hit. Well, I took yet another unit exam for my Business 101 class this week and much to surprise and delight, I aced it! So I had to celebrate for this small achievement of getting my first A in the testing center. There's been this restaurant here in Rexburg called Da Pineapple Grill right by my apartment. They serve Asian-style food ranging from your typical Americanized-teriyaki to some Japanese food. And they even have a sushi bar! I know right? "Sushi in a land-locked state like Idaho?!"

(Okay, you weren't thinking that, but I was!)

So today for lunch, I decided to try out Da Pineapple Grill:

Sushi and chicken katsu! The pathway to my heart!
I would've gotten steamed white rice like any respectable Japanese but they're were all out so I had to settle for french fries!

The food I had for lunch today was pretty good. The prime stuff I had back in Japan set my standards pretty high but this wasn't half-bad! They're lunch specials are a decent price too so I figure there are a few dishes here worth trying out. But this food sure was a nice change of pace from the usual stuff I've been eating for my meals. The portion sizes may be a little questionable (especially for the sushi plate!) but I think this would be the way to go if you're looking to have a lighter meal in portion sizes.
